Meet Richard Larson...
The owner and chief designer of Quilting Design Studio

Richard has been involved in sewing and designing for many years. He began sewing for his family at the age of six. During his junior and high school years, he earned money for college by making prom wear for the local school kids.

Richard graduated Wades Fashion Merchandising College and obtained a degree in Fashion Design and Textiles. In the early 70's and 80's, he worked in two different design houses in Dallas, Texas where he designed women's After Five Apparel.

Richard got into this profession in 1997 after making an appliqué quilt top. He heard about how you could send your quilt top off to have it machine quilted. He sent it off, got it back and it had been quilted entirely in monofiliment thread! He was livid! He realized then he could do this! With the encouragement of his mother, Joyce Larson, he went to the bank, told hem he wanted to buy a quilting machine, this is how much it is and I want to use the machine for collateral! He was approved for the loan and bought the machine without even trying it!

Richard was a corporate travel agent at the time, but started getting quilt tops from friends of his mom in Burkburnett, TX. These tops were how he practiced. It wasn't long before people started hearing about what he was doing and was soon making more money than he was sitting at a desk.

Richard took a leap of faith, quit his full-time job and began his machine quilting business! He received a call from a quilt shop owner that offered him the opportunity to quilt in her shop, the cost of rent would be quilting her shop samples! When her shop closed, he moved to another shop and it closed! He finally got his own space and bought a 2nd machine.

Richard now has 2 longarm machines, with no computer or stitch regulator on either machine. Everything he does is all him.
